With the release of its third-generation Management Switching Module (MSM-3) for the 10-gigabit BlackDiamond 6800, Extreme Networks moves truly hitless failover into the realm of reality. The MSM-3 typically exhibits zero packet loss during the transition from master to slave module. What's more, it fails over in less than half the time of its closest competitor and also enables hitless upgrades. The MSM-3 runs at twice the clock speed (480 MHz) of the second generation MSM64i. Its 512 Mb of memory and 10,000 access control lists (ACLs) also represent a twofold improvement over its predecessor. And by implementing Cross-Link Module Aggregation (CMLA), it raises the bar for network resiliency even higher.
