These units provide a dual-host capability, giving the user either out-of-band dial-up or inband TELNET remote access to the unit and attached equipment. The units typically utilize a DS71-MD3, coupled with a DS72 Ethernet module. This setup allows the user to dial-in to the main unit and access the DS74 serial module(s). By using the DS72 Ethernet module, the user can access the DS74 serial module(s) via the network. The bus can only be accessed by one host module at a time. If the bus is currently in use, the second host will prompt the user that the bus is in use by another operator. There is also a prompt asking if the user would like to terminate the other session. If answered "Yes", the first connection will be terminated and the second connection will be made. Either user can initiate this action.
