Description

The Cisco HWIC-8A WAN interface card is a high-speed synchronous/asynchronous module that is compatible with Cisco's 2800, 2900, 3800, and 2900 series, as well as the Cisco 1841 and 1941 ISRs. This device supports Cisco IOS software, which allows advanced manipulation of network attributes and offers a full suite of management and maintenance tools for Cisco networks. The Cisco HWIC-8A enables users to perform traditional and low-density WAN aggregation, transport traditional protocols, console servers, and dial access servers, as well as equip networks for remote management. In addition, this high-speed synchronous/asynchronous module can be combined with other modules to create a customized solution for external dial-modem access and high port density support. The traditional protocols supported by the Cisco HWIC-8A include Systems Network Architecture (SNA) and Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC), Binary Synchronous Communications (Bisync), and X.25. Because synchronous/asynchronous ports allow for network convergence, this WAN interface card can utilize TCP/IP networks to transport traditional network traffic without the expense of separate leased lines. This module is compatible with EIA-232 cables only.
