OmniStack is a series of small Ethernet and 10/100 switches that deliver powerful Switched Network Services, Fast Ethernet uplinks, ATM uplinks, Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, WAN uplinks, and layer-three switching, all at low cost. What sets these switches apart from other small switches is Alcatel's focus on power, flexibility, and network services.The OmniStack 4000 series is equipped with 16 or 24 10/100 ports; each port supports both Ethernet and Fast Ethernet, or 24 ports Ethernet and Fast Ethernet with 2 uplinks of either Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet. It also auto-senses the rate of the device attached to it. Various models have sufficient CAM to support up to 1K or 4K MAC-layer addresses. OmniStack 4000 series is designed for: workgroup and edge applications with Ethernet workstations that will need to migrate to Fast Ethernet, workgroup applications with Fast Ethernet workstations and servers, edge applications with Fast Ethernet workstations and backbone links, simple backbone applications, as a core switch for OmniStack 1000, 2000, or 3000, workgroup switching with Gigabit uplinks for interoperability with an OS/R backbone.
