The System 3000 family of intelligent networking hubs delivers a flexible platform for implementing and supporting a variety of large, complex physical star-topology networks over a buildings structured cabling system. Far more versatile than the single-technology hubs, the modular System 3000 chassis is an extremely reliable, easy-to-use, upgradable platform that supports shared media, routing, bridging, and switching technology.
System 3000 intelligent networking hubs, consisting of five Premises chassis and two Department chassis, feature a multiple-bus backplane architecture which enables them to simultaneously support a combination of 10 megabit per second (Mbps) Ethernet, 4 and 16 Mbps Token Ring, and 100 Mbps Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) networks. Through a variety of Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI connectivity, and internetworking and network management modules, network designers can create custom configurations that meet their specific networking needs now and in the future.
The Model 3000 Premises Concentrator consists of a Model 3000 chassis and one of five types of backplanes. A Model 3000 chassis has either 9 or 12 slots that accommodate a combination of connectivity, internetworking, and network management modules. Depending on the type of backplane installed, a Model 3000 chassis provides connectivity for Ethernet, Ethernet plus token ring, or Ethernet, token ring, and FDDI networks in a single chassis. Chassis that include token ring and FDDI are available in two power supply configurations. A Model 3000 chassis can be mounted on a table or in a rack.
The Model 3000NT Premises Concentrator has the following features:
Twelve slots for host modules, internetworking modules, or network management modules,
Support for up to five Ethernet segments,
Single Model 3002 460-watt power supply (standard),
Possible use of the Model 3002DC 48-volt power supply,
Two independent token rings,
Token ring operation at either 4 or 16 Mb/s,
Backplane with multisegment Ethernet bus, two token ring buses, dedicated network management interfac
e bus, and a power supply bus.
