Overview
The Cisco FLASR1-FW-GTP-RTU license adds GTP (GPRS Tunneling Protocol) support to the firewall Real Time Update (RTU) feature on ASR1000 series routers. This software license enables deep packet inspection and secure handling of mobile backhaul traffic while preserving the high performance and reliability of the Cisco ASR1000 platform. By integrating GTP awareness directly into the firewall, service providers can enforce policy, detect anomalies, and protect core networks without deploying separate inspection appliances.
Key Features
- Full GTP version 1 and version 2 parsing and classification
- Seamless integration with existing firewall RTU workflows
- Policy based control of GTP tunnels, including allow, deny and rate limit actions
- Enhanced logging and reporting for mobile traffic events
- Support for high throughput environments up to 10 Gbps per line card
- License is stackable for multi-slot ASR1000 deployments
Technical Specifications
- Compatible hardware: Cisco ASR1000 series routers with firewall RTU feature enabled
- Software version: Cisco IOS XE 16.9 or later
- License type: Feature license, perpetual
- Activation method: Cisco Smart Licensing or traditional license file
- Resource usage: Minimal CPU impact, < 5 percent of overall processing capacity under typical load
- Support for GTP messages: Create PDP context, Update PDP context, Delete PDP context, GTP-U data
Applications
- Mobile core network protection for LTE and 5G backhaul links
- Secure transport of subscriber data across public or shared infrastructure
- Regulatory compliance enforcement for telecom operators
- Integration with network function virtualization (NFV) environments that require GTP visibility
- Service level monitoring and troubleshooting for carrier grade services
By adding the GTP Add on to Firewall RTU Feature License, customers gain granular control over mobile tunneling protocols while leveraging the existing security posture of their ASR1000 routers. This results in reduced operational complexity, lower total cost of ownership, and improved protection against emerging threats in the mobile domain.
